Chance Chloë Barrera is a human rights advocate with an anthropology background and an MPH degree focused on global public health and bodily autonomy from New York University. In the summer of 2023, she was our first-ever Period Poverty Investigator, a title she coined and embodied with utmost respect. During her time in Ghana, she established extensive research on the effects of the sustainable pads, Volta Pads, on 100 girls within the Volta Region of Ghana. While in Ghana, her research provided the Volta Pad team with a detailed satisfaction assessment; this assessment allowed for a new outlook and growth for Volta Pad. With her work, the team, led by Chance, could redesign and revamp our sustainable menstrual pad design with guidance from her research, striving for a better fit, protection, and overall satisfaction for all young girls and women who use it.
Her further work with the organization includes establishing a social media presence, a public health-led interior design layout for our Ghana-based workshop, and initiating brand ambassadors.
As a woman who believes that health products made by women, for women, in the hopes of narrowing the global gender gap, are crucial for an equitable world, Volta Pad Organization humbly welcomes Chance Chloë Barrera as a board advisor.
